Ivory Coast
The trial of former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo resumes this Monday at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague.
The new trial session is expected to last for about two weeks as a sixth witness for the prosecution comes before the court this Monday, May 9.
As has been the case, the identity of the witnesses has not been unveiled. The witness will be questioned on 85 documents and videos.
Gbagbo and youth leader Blé Goude are being prosecuted by the ICC for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
His refusal to step down after losing elections to Alassane Ouattara in 2010 sparked bloody clashes for over five months causing the death of over 3,000 Ivorians.
Gbagbo was arrested in April 2011 during the Ivorian crisis and later extradited to the Hague.
The ICC has been repeatedly criticised by some African leaders who claim the court is unfair to the continent.
